Some friends and I are planning a trip to Charleston in SC in early Oct and we're considering a Plantation Tour. I came across one called "Plantation Extravaganza!" It's a 4 hour tour where you visit 5 different Plantations. It was odd that there were no reviews for it and wanted to reach out if to see if anyone had any feedback.

April is wonderful "beach weather", and possibly our favorite time to be on Kiawah. The air and water temps increase daily, through the month. In mid-April, the water temps will probably still be cool (by South Carolina standards). Beaufort is charming and I highly recommend. If you want a real understanding of Charleston's history, I would visit one of the Plantations: Middleburg Place, Magnolia or Drayton Hall. Each site is very different. Lots of paid parking. $1/half hour or $18/day. We usually use the garage at 1 Cumberland when visiting the HD. The ramp on John street is near the visitors center which is a good starting point as well.

Traffic should not be bad going to the beach from the Historic District. Bad traffic going out to Folly tends to be over stated.
