But I have heard almost all schools pull like for like off the waitlist- i.e. instate girl for instate girl, and out of state guy will get an out of state guy of the waitlist to maintain the 50/50 male female distribution and the 140 IS 20 OOS distribution. Thats why the waitlist *cannot* be ranked.All I can say is waitlist movement caused a lot of shifting around which could reasonably lead to more interview invites to properly fill the class. A hold and a II-waitlist are effectively the same, and I don't think any school would distinguish between the two (they either put people "on-hold" or on a II-waitlist) -- implying you are still under consideration, but not enough for an II at this time.AAMC trafficking rules have since changed so that schools cannot see detailed info about their accepted/waitlisted applicants until early May. As such, it's now much more difficult for schools to make educated decisions about who to interview and who to accept. I sent a letter of intent/update pre-decision to one school and was waitlisted the same week I sent it.They are taken into account. You have to realize that most updates aren't on the magnitude that it will swing a decision towards your favor. #3. At this point, the only "update" worth sending is from a waitlist candidate who is holding an acceptance at a "better" or cheaper school.
