How to replace pull rope on craftsman lawn mower

Thread one end of the start cord through the hole in the starter handle. Tie a knot in the end to prevent it from slipping back out of the hole. Thread the opposite end of the new starter rope through the hole in the outer edge of the starter assembly housing. Pull the string all the way through until the starter handle rests against the housing.

Wind up the spool in the starter mechanism all the way, then back it up until the hole in the spool lines up with the hole in the cover....THEN snake the rope in and tie a knot in the end.
