You like call, rounding the wards, placing catheters and chemo -> heme/onc. You like controlled schedule in the clinic and radiotherapy -> rad/onc. My goals are attending the program with the best reputation for good clinical training, diverse clinical research and med ed opportunities, and strong academic heme/onc opportunities and match record.Hem is more diverse. Benign = you need a good understanding of physiology to enjoy or else you will want to poke your eyes out. Acute leuks/BMT/induction = prolonged inpatient stays with little organ reserve and thus require great attention to details and closer follow-up. Most likely, the IM PD you're referring to is probably a PD of a random community hospital. Matching into heme-onc from a community IM program is also an extremely uphill battle.
