This cam with L31 heads is good for about 350 horses SAE at gross (no accessories, dyno headers and exhaust, no mufflers. The cheapo plastic timing cover is easily replaced with a conventional cover stamped or cast by pulling a couple locating pins and tapping their holes for std. timing cover 1/4 inch coarse thread bolts.Then I took my RamJet 350 57 chevy for a test drive in the cool weather around 58 degrees outside ambient temperature. I drove on the highway at around 65 MPH for 10 or 15 minutes and the water temp gauge dropped to 158-165 degrees...too cool. Not a good thing. It seems the thermostat cannot keep the engine warm enough with the bypass holes.

I need to check the timing on my ramjet 350 but there is no timing tab on the block and as far as I can tell from searching this is how the engine comes. I have the tool to set the base timing but the manual says to adjust it to 10* BTDC using a timing light.Well after I found the spec's on the Ramjet 350, I would say yes it would be an improvement and I should be able to just change the cam. Looking at the spec's on the ramjet I see the only difference between the two long blocks, is the cam and the 1.6 roller rockers, the ramjet has.
